VAN WEZEL PERFORMING ARTS HALL
Founded in 1949, the Florida West Coast Symphony enjoys the distinction of being
the oldest continuing orchestra in the State of Florida, serving both Sarasota
and Manatee counties. Today we are a dynamic, multi-faceted organization dedicated
to excellence in both performance and education:
The Symphony’s performing
ensembles include the Florida West Coast Symphony and four resident chamber ensembles.
More about our musicians.
For over 50 years we have involved our community
youth in the classical music experience. The Youth Orchestra Program and its faculty
have received commendations from school districts, professional organizations,
and community service groups.
The Florida West Coast Symphony offers music
classes for the young and young at heart. Enthusiastic students of all ages and
abilities can select from a variety of classes to suit their particular interests,
age, and skill levels.
For 42 years, the prestigious Sarasota Music Festival
has provided exceptional chamber music experiences for college-aged students from
around the globe. The Florida West Coast Symphony brings the joy of music to youngsters
and plants the seeds for a lifetime love of classical music through our community
outreach programs. A variety of concerts and workshops presented by FWCS supplement
the music programs offered in our area schools.
Hundreds of volunteers
support the Florida West Coast Symphony through our auxiliary organizations. We
invite you to get involved in special projects that raise funds for our educational
programs while enjoying the company of fellow music lovers.
